CRI Green Label Plus Certification

The Highest Standard for Indoor Air Quality

Today, indoor air quality (IAQ) is an important environmental consideration, especially since we spend approximately 90 percent of our time indoors. In 1992, the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) launched its Green Label program to test carpet, cushions and adhesives to help specifiers identify products with very low emissions or VOCs.

CRI has recently launched its next series of improvements called Green Label Plus for carpet and adhesives. This enhanced program sets an even higher standard for IAQ and ensures that customers are purchasing the very lowest emitting products on the market. Using scientifically established standards, the Green Label Plus program symbolizes the carpet industry’s commitment to a better environment for living, working, learning and healing.

Signature Hospitality carpet products have been Green Label Plus certified since 2007 and assures that our carpet meets the most stringent criteria for low chemical emissions.

Note on Attached Cushions (LXT-18 and LXT-24):

When cushion is desired, we highly recommend using our attached cushion backings. We run two (2) different types of attached cushion backs, LXF-24 for ColorPoint carpets and LXT-18 for all other carpets.

Both of these backs are run to density and thickness, not weight. The LXF-24 is 24 lb./cubic foot density attached cushion and is run at approximately with a 2.5 mm thickness. The LXT-18 is 18 lb./cubic foot density attached cushion and is run to approximately 3 mm thickness. Both backs come with non-woven scrim for ease of installation.

The attached cushion backs use our BioCelâ„¢ technology. BioCel polyurethane carpet backing combines renewable and recycled materials resulting in a product that is more than 70% green by weight and contains:

  • Bio-based polymers made from domestically grown soy beans.
  • Celceram, a highlyt refined, recovered material for coal combustion.
  • The non-woven scrim is made from PET fibers (yarn made from recycled plastic bottles).

All of our EnviroCelâ„¢ and BioCel backing systems quality for LEED. Our attached cushion backing helps reduce the cost of installation. We require premium multipurpose adhesives and seam sealer on all of our backing systems.

Warranty Information

Ten (10) Year Limited Wear

The manufacturer warrants that for 10 years from the date of original purchase, Signature Hospitality carpet, when installed and maintained as recommended by the manufacturer, will retain at least 90 percent of its pile fiber, subject to the following limitations.

This warranty does not cover tears, pulls, cuts, crushing, matting, packing, burns, and damage due to abuse by any athletic equipment, such as roller skates, ski boots, or golf shoes, damage due to the application of improper cleaning agents or maintenance methods or deterioration in appearance not related to loss or pile fibers. Carpet installed on stairs is excluded from warranty.

If dissatisfied with wear performance, the owner must notify the manufacturer and permit the manufacturer to test the carpet. If testing shows the carpet has lost more than 10 percent of its pile fiber, then the manufacturer will replace the warranted carpet in the affected room or area at Signature Hospitality Carpets’ expense, excluding labor.

California Stewardship Law

California AB 2398 is a carpet stewardship law designed to increase the diversion and recycling of carpet in the State of California. In addition to diverting post-consumer carpets from landfills and increasing recycling of post-consumer carpets, this law will promote the reconcilability of carpets and market growth of secondary products made from post-consumer carpets.

Types of Carpet Products Affected

Commercial and residential broadloom carpets and modular carpet tiles are affected by this legislation. Rugs, pad cushion and underlayment do not fall under the scope of this law.

Changes as a Result of the Program

When the law went into effect July 1, 2011, carpet manufacturers are required to add an assessment fee of $0.05 per square yard to the purchase price of all carpet sold in the State of California. Carpet distributors, dealers, and retailers must then pass the assessment on to customers. The assessment fee must be identified on all carpet invoices. Retailers are required to pay the assessment to manufacturers through invoices.
